About the Provost

On May 31, 2019, Arcadia University announced that, following a national search, Dr. Jeff Rutenbeck was appointed as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. An expert in communication and digital media studies, Dr. Rutenbeck most recently served as dean of the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw four academic divisions: Journalism, Public Communication, Film and Media Arts, and Communication Studies. 

Dr. Rutenbeck is a former faculty member at American University, Champlain College, and the University of Denver. He is the author of one book and dozens of articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, including digitalization, hyper-complexity, and media history. Dr. Rutenbeck served as founding president and chair of the Board of the International Digital Media and Arts Association, and he is an alum of the distinguished Academy for Innovation in Higher Education Leadership run by Arizona State University and Georgetown University.

Arcadia University’s Provost’s Office provides leadership, coordination, and collaboration with Deans and other Academic Affairs unit heads to support the effective work of Academic Affairs in the following areas:
