Act 48 of 1999 requires all Pennsylvania educators holding Pennsylvania public school certification (including Instructional I and II, Educational Specialist I and II, Administrative, Supervisory, Letters of Eligibility, and all vocational certificates) to participate in ongoing professional education.
Beginning July 1, 2000, Act 48 of 1999 requires persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years to maintain their certificate status as active whether employed or not.
Collegiate credits may be applied to the continuing education requirements earned during the current Act 48 compliance period. Up to six credits (2 courses) of successfully completed (grade 'C' or better) coursework taken at Arcadia University can be requested to be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education each year.
